Independent School Laboratory Refurbishment

Wolverhampton Grammar School is a leading independent day school for students between the ages of 7 – 18 and is based on a 23 acre campus, which blends stunning original architecture with creative, innovative learning spaces.  The school’s mission is to deliver education that transforms lives as well as minds by providing an education as individual as each student and within an environment that is like no other.

The Brief

In 2017, as part of their on-going development, the estates team planned to upgrade their science facilities on a rolling programme, as they were in need of modernisation.  Innova was approached by the school to design and quote for the full turnkey refurbishment of 3 Physics laboratories including all three utilities, electrics, plumbing, decoration and installation of furniture – A one stop solution!

Following a tender process based on design and quote, Innova was appointed to deliver the new cutting-edge Laboratories.

The Solution

From out-dated to state-of-the-art, Innova worked closely with the school team to create contemporary laboratories, which really work for students and teachers alike – maximised space, improved circulation and increased flexibility for both practical and theory work.

Two of the laboratories were developed using Innova’s popular Hot Corner design which creates a seamless working classroom and practical laboratory. The design relocates the teacher to the long wall providing shorter lines of communication, improves classroom management and with integrated storage it creates a clutter-free work environment, minimising distractions during lessons.

A third science lab was designed with a curved benching layout, where services such as electricity and gas were located off the benching, which helps to optimises the work space available for theory sessions.

High quality, low maintenance Velstone work surfaces were specified throughout, providing durability and longevity for years to come.

The new Laboratories will now inspire budding scientist well into the future.
