Priory School Southsea New Vibrant Food Technology Rooms

Priory School, part of Bohunt Education Trust in Southsea, offers co-educational learning for 11 to 16 year olds. Dedicated to their vision the school focuses on delivering outstanding education, enabling students to excel academically and grow personally.

The school’s core values are centered on creating, distinctive and engaging learning environments and experiences. Through collaborative efforts, they ensure students exceed national standards and graduate as conscientious, mature individuals, ready to make a valued contribution to society.

The Brief

Early January 2023, Innova received an enquiry from the school to design and quote for the complete refurbishment of two food Technology classrooms, scheduled for the summer of 2023.

Priory’s outdated and underperforming Food Technology spaces presented a challenge for the school, to effectively teach a full class in the curriculum. This was primarily due to insufficient kitchen areas including hobs, ovens and storage facilities.

Following Innova’s consultation and site survey, the primary objective was to develop the interiors to accommodate both practical and theory sessions, ensuring ample circulation space and adequate ovens and hobs to accommodate twenty-two students.

In terms of turnkey services, the renovation included full rip out, new suspended ceiling, M&E Works, new extract systems, new flooring, decoration and more.

  • Windows to be blocked and overhead cupboards for storage.
  • Teacher demonstration area with camera and projector
  • Under counter cookers and built in hobs
  • Dishwasher in each room
  • Office area for a computer for the technician

The Solution

During the summer of 2023, Innova successfully completed an extensive refurbishment project transforming Priory’s, Food Technology rooms into modern, 21st century spaces.

Working in partnership with the school, Innova’s designers developed, user-centric bay layouts to optimise the space and create a ‘wow’ factor as well as meet all the practical requirements of each interior.  The design features, eleven discrete vibrant kitchens along the perimeter, with a central arrangement of flexible tables for theory sessions.

The new layout enables all students to cook concurrently and the use of vibrant colours delineate the kitchens areas, so students can easily identify their assigned kitchen zones, assisting classroom management.

A teacher demonstration desk with state-of-the-art camera allows students to watch demonstrations in real time, whilst working on their own creations

Storage is colour co-ordinated and optimised around the room, keeping the space uncluttered, clean and safe and allows for maximum productivity during lessons.

The choice of durable, easy to maintain speckle grey Trespa Toplab Base ensures a hygienic environment that’s future-proofed for years to come.

Innova delivered a full turnkey solution including all utilities, electrics, plumbing, decoration and installation of furniture – A one stop solution!

The school is delighted with the end result and the new 21st century Food and Nutrition room will motivate learning for generations to come.
