The brief
Metalube®aimed to significantly enhance its operational capabilities by more than doubling the size of its existing laboratory facilities, increasing the total area to an impressive 126m².
The expansion comes at a pivotal time for Metalube®, following a recent 25% increase in its team of highly skilled chemists. This growth emphasises the company’s dedication to strengthening its expertise in research and product development.
The new state-of-the-art laboratory will be designed to meet the demands of a modern, 21st-century facility, providing cutting-edge resources for both quality control and the development of pioneering lubricant technologies.
By investing in these advanced capabilities, Metalube® is ensuring it can continue to deliver exceptional performance and reliability to its global customer base while fostering innovation to address evolving industry challenges.

The solution
Innova collaborated closely with the Metalube® team to design and deliver specialist laboratory furniture tailored to the needs of a modern lubricant development facility.
Delivering a full turnkey solution, Innova managed every aspect of the project, including the design, manufacture, and installation of furniture. Additionally, the scope of work encompassed mechanical and electrical (M&E) services, utilities, flooring, and decoration, ensuring a seamless and fully integrated laboratory environment that meets the highest standards of functionality and innovation.
Layout optimisation
The laboratory was split into 3 key areas:

An open plan hot desk area for project work and

A separate office area.
The R&D lab was designed with a bay layout to provide generous working space and storage facilities. This configuration promotes flexible operations, allowing chemists to work on multiple samples as well as write up and review test results at the same time.
A dedicated hot desk area featuring fixed benching was incorporated adjacent to the R&D lab, providing a versatile space for non-test activities. This zone allows researchers to perform administrative tasks, collaborate, and manage projects without interrupting the flow of laboratory operations.

Trespa Toblab was chosen for the worktops due to its exceptional durability, offering long-lasting resistance to chemicals, scratches, and wear
The storage units were manufactured from high-quality MF MDF, a material known for its strength and longevity. A mixture of open shelving, tall units and base unit, allows the flexibility to store a variety of chemicals and equipment.
Metalube are delighted with their new laboratory and it will provide the company with a platform to supply first class products that meet 21st Century demands.
