Brine Leas – Tantalising Food Technology Room
Brine Leas School in Nantwich, is an outstanding teaching school dating back to the 1950’s. In 2010 the school was one of the first groups of establishments to become an academy with the aim of all students receiving a successful education across the curriculum.
As part of their on-going investment and development, Brine Leas wanted to expand their Food Technology facility to accommodate more students, increase the number of practical sessions taking place and meet the increase in demand of level 3 ‘A’ Level students enrolling on the course.
After securing funding from ‘The Savoy Educational Trust’ and ‘The Brine Leas Trust’ the refurbishment became a reality.

The Brief
With an increase in demand for Food Technology at the school, the challenge for Innova was to provide space for the increased number of students and the practical sessions taking place, whilst allowing for teaching flexibility and clear visibility of the pupils as part of room management. The designs were developed to provide inspirational, well-planned, well equipped interiors to benefit both teaching staff and the next generation of chefs.
The Solution
The state-of-the-art new food technology rooms have been designed with a peninsular layout and workstations, with clear sight lines, good circulation and a range of storage options.
The new layout can now accommodate a maximum of 50 students from the previous 25 and allows for more practical lessons to take place. It also provides teaching staff with the flexibility to divide classes into small or large groups during practical sessions.
