Education Secretary Unveils New Technology Block at Heolddu Comprehensive School

During the visit, the Welsh Education Secretary, Kirsty Williams and Hefin David, Assembly Member for Caerphilly, praised the new facilities and progress made by the headteacher.

Kirsty Williams said: “I want to thank the pupils and staff for giving me such a warm welcome. They have worked together to provide these brilliant new facilities to give the pupils here the very best chance of success. It’s vital that we provide our young people with the finest facilities possible, to give them the best learning and skills.”

Melanie Laing, director at Innova Design Group, which provided a full turnkey solution including the design, manufacture and install of the new learning spaces said:

“Heolddu Comprehensive School is a fantastic school with driven management and clear direction, but in order to raise attainment for the pupils, facilities required significant improvement.

“Working directly with the school to a very tight timescale, Innova completed the design, manufacture and installation of an art classroom, design technology classroom and a food technology classroom. In each of the learning spaces we created distinct zones in order to maximise space, improve circulation and shorten the lines of communication. This will help to improve concentration and engagement while making classes significantly easier to manage – resulting in a better and more productive experience for both teachers and pupils.

“At Innova we believe that a well-thought-out classroom can make a big difference in helping both students and teachers to reach their potential and genuinely believe these enhanced environments will improve the prospects of pupils at Heolddu Comprehensive School for many years to come. We are very pleased with the standard of the finish and are delighted that the rooms are now in use.”
