With a strong reputation and over 1375 students on roll, Southam College is an outstanding school set in the heart of Warwickshire. Due to increasing pupil numbers, the school was looking to provide an additional science laboratory to ensure students had access to the very best facilities.

The Brief
Innova’s brief was to transform a standard classroom into a fully functioning contemporary laboratory to seat 32 students. Southam required a well-designed laboratory suitable for everyday use, from practical experiments to theory work and form sessions. The challenge was to increase storage, provide good sightlines throughout, to allow the teacher to move around the laboratory quickly and easily and build quality durable furniture.
The Solution
Working closely with the school, Innova designed and delivered an exciting and stimulating laboratory to meet the needs of teachers and students. Serving both practical and theory lessons, a Hot Corner design provides the ideal working space. The layout also ensures short lines of communication so that the space is easily manageable by the teacher. Hard-wearing and easy to maintain solid surfaces were fitted to ensure longevity and durability to the space.
A teachers desk equipped with gas, water and electrics was installed to create the perfect space to demonstrate experiments. Storage was incorporated seamlessly into the design, ensuring standard lab equipment such as Bunsen burners and clamp stands could be housed safely and efficiently. Innova also supplied durable ergonomic stools to maximise student comfort and encourage a good posture.
Students and staff alike were highly impressed by Innova’s unique design for their new laboratory.
