Philips High School New Science & IT Interiors 

Over the last few years Philips High School has undergone a transformation becoming a high achieving and successful learning community with students, making consistently strong progress across the curriculum and throughout the school.

The key objective of the Science department is to increase pupils’ knowledge, skills and understanding of the physical world, helping them to appreciate the relevance of science in their everyday lives.

Science teaching is carried out by a dedicated team of talented and caring professionals committed to develop students with the relevant skills to succeed including critical thinking, logical deduction with the ability to analyse and interpret data.

The Brief

As part of the on-going development of learning facilities and after securing Local Authority funding, Philips High School planned to transform their Laboratories and IT room from out-dated interiors into safe contemporary flexible spaces, with plenty of storage to house resources.

As an existing customer, impressed with the quality of our products, In February 2022, Innova was briefed by the Business Manager to develop further interiors for the school.

Following consultation and a comprehensive site survey the scope was agreed including blocking up doorways, ceiling, flooring, M&E works, and decoration, Innova’s designer set to task to develop the Laboratory and IT Suite layouts to exceed the clients’ brief.

A Laboratory wing design was preferred by the school, as it allows all students to face front of the class, improves circulation, providing teachers greater control of the learning environment.

Whilst the IT suite was developed with straight benching accommodating maximum number of students whilst meeting circulatory guidelines.

The Solution

In just 6 weeks during summer the interiors were completely overhauled, including turnkey construction services:

• Removal of existing fitted furniture and safe disposal
• Reconfiguration of existing gas, water and electrical services to suit new purposed layout working in accordance with the final drawings.
• Data install, from existing server unit to new data outlets in location as per designs.
• Supply and fit new vinyl flooring
• Install of new fitted furniture manufactured by Innova.
• Full decoration to all walls, sparkle clean and handover.

The new laboratories now feature a wing layout, which supports a flexible environment for both theory and practical work, allowing teaching staff to accommodate various teaching styles as well as plan more practical learning.

The teacher demo area provides a focal point for teachers to demonstrate experiments and with plenty of drawer, cupboard and Gratnell tray storage means the classrooms can be kept clutter free.

Students and staff love the new interiors which provide modern, brighter spaces for the school to continue with their high achieving and successful learning community for many years to come.

The Business Manager has recently briefed  Innova to refurbish a further Laboratory in 2023!
