Science Laboratory refurbishment
Hopwood Hall College has completed a £2million-plus refurbishment of its science facilities as it continues to invest in the infrastructure of its sites at Rochdale and Middleton.

The college has modernised and re-fitted four laboratories, as well as a preparation room, during term time.
The Brief
As part of a capital renewal programme, funded through the Skills Funding Agency (Enhanced Renewal Grant 3), the college was looking to modernize the science laboratories. The laboratories were installed in the 90’s and lacked the space, storage and inspiration required to meet the learning needs of students.Working closely with the college, Innova delivered a full turnkey solution including design, manufacture and install of all furniture as well as M&E work and flooring.Ultimately, Hopwood Hall wanted to create contemporary, engaging spaces which would set them apart from other colleges in the area.
The Solution
Innova completed a tender to design and deliver key teaching buildings central to the provision of Life Sciences. The comprehensive programme valued at £2.2m, involved the refurbishment of four science laboratories and prep room in the Wardle Building. The science labs posed a number of design challenges from programme to space planning, however our designs optimised the space transforming each interior.
The refurbishment of the rooms was carried out as a rolling programme, during term time to allow lessons to continue without disruption.
The laboratories were designed with Innova’s unique “hot corners” to maximise the space for practical and theory work. Inspirational teacher’s walls and demo benches were installed, incorporating interactive whiteboards and extensive storage areas to house books and equipment.
Each laboratory was designed with a differing colour scheme, from ice blue to monochrome and metallic greens, to support student engagement and interest within each learning environment.
Students and staff are delighted with their new learning spaces which will improve teaching and learning experiences well into the future.
